Are carbohydrates and protein rivals or teammates?

Are carbohydrates and protein rivals or teammates?

This interesting debate has been going on for many years.

  • Let's cut carbohydrates.
  • Let's increase protein.

Could these two nutrients actually complement each other?

So, could these two nutrients actually complement each other? Looking at it scientifically, there is in fact a picture. One makes up one of our body's basic energy sources, while the other provides the amino acids needed to build, maintain and repair our tissues.

While carbohydrates contribute to replenishing energy stores, proteins support the repair and renewal processes of muscles. Moreover, in meals where they are eaten together, the feeling of fullness and the blood sugar response can also differ depending on the content of the meal. So instead of the question "carbohydrate or protein?", what matters is the balance of amounts in which we consume these two nutrients. In my opinion, we should develop food not by increasing the amount of a single nutrient alone, but by taking into account how nutrients create value together.

Looking at the value they create together instead of setting them up as rivals

Because just as carbohydrate is not always the enemy, protein alone is not the answer to all our nutritional needs. In healthy eating, I believe we should talk more about the value nutrients create together, instead of setting them up as rivals.

Protein, carbohydrates and fats are nutrients that take on different roles in the human body and form the basis of a balanced nutrition model.
